Feeding unsaturated fat to milk cows can be detrimental. How well do 2- to 4-month-old calves on a primarily grain diet tolerate unsaturated fat?

We would limit the amount of unsaturated fatty acids to young calves also. Milk replacers usually use animal fat sources (more saturated). In calf starter, 10 percent roasted soybeans can be used as part of the protein source. Once the rumen is developed and functional, unsaturated fatty acids (adding up to 2 percent of the ration dry matter) should not be a problem.
