When do I need to apply an inoculant to my soybean crop?

Inoculants (rhizobia) are typically not needed in fields where soybeans have been recently grown. If a soybean crop has not been produced for three to four years previously in the field, an inoculant may help to ensure adequate nodulation. In these cases, apply the inoculant at planting.
