Geospatial technologies use specialized hardware, software, applications, and technology tools (or a combination of these) to interpret geographic data and place them into a georeferenced coordinate system so the data can be mapped and analyzed.

Geospatial technologies take advantage of geographical referencing to compare spatial information on a wide variety of geographic features, including geology, land cover, population, transportation, hydrology, agriculture, and much more.

Examples of geospatial technologies are Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and the Global Positioning System (GPS).

Examples of popular online applications using geospatial technologies include Google Earth and Mapquest.
