Micronaire is a measure of fiber fineness and maturity. An airflow instrument is used to measure the air permeability of a constant mass of cotton fibers compressed to a fixed volume. A micronaire of 3.4 or below is considered low micronaire, and 5.0 and above is considered high micronaire. Micronaire values of 3.5 to 3.6 and those from 4.3 to 4.9 are considered in the base range. The premium range is 3.7 to 4.2.
