What is the critical level for soil phosphorus for cotton production in desert soils?

Research conducted across a variety of desert soils in Arizona indicates that a critical level of 5 ppm (parts per million) sodium bicarbonate extractable P is adequate for optimum cotton production. Cotton crops grown on fields with soil test levels below 5 ppm have shown a positive response to supplemental P fertilization.
