Recent research in brain development indicates that watching television is not good for young children and is associated with risks such as attention problems and obesity. Watching television can affect the wiring of the brain that helps children connect what they learn.
Television commercials advertising foods that are high in fat and sugar content may contribute to a child becoming overweight. In addition, the time spent watching television takes away from the time the children could be spending in active play.
Professional organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association for the Education of Young Children suggest that television exposure should be limited for very young children. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under age 2 should watch no television, and television time should be extremely limited for all young children.
