What animal diseases are reportable?

According to the USDA’s National Animal Health Reporting System (www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/nahss/disease_status.htm) the diseases listed below are reportable. They can be found in multiple species of animals. Individual states may require additional diseases to be reported and additional diseases may be added to this list at any time.

• Foot and Mouth Disease
• Vesicular Stomatitis
• Rinderpest
• Rift Valley Fever
• Crimean Congo hemorrhagic Fever
• Bluetongue
• Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis)
• Aujeszky’s Disease (Pseudorabies)
• Echinococcosis/Hydatidosis
• Heartwater (Cowdria ruminantium)
• Leptospirosis
• Q Fever (Coxiella burnetti)
• Rabies
• Paratuberculosis (Johne’s Disease)
• New and Old World Screwworm (Cochliomyia (Callitroga) hominivorax, Chrysomya bezziana)
• Trichinellosis
• Bovine Brucellosis (Brucella abortus)
• Caprine and Ovine Brucellosis (Brucella melitensis)
• Japanese Encephalitis
• Porcine Brucellosis (Brucella suis)
• Tularemia (Francisella tularensis)
• West Nile Fever/encephalitis
