Conservation tillage systems conserve soil moisture and reduce soil erosion by rain and wind. Most conservation tillage systems also reduce the trips a farmer has to make over a field. This reduces fuel consumption and labor a farmer must hire to produce a crop. Soil tilth may also be improved as soil organic matter increases in fields maintained in conservation tillage.
