Are my preschoolers too young for me to start teaching them about money?

Parenting, Personal Finance February 28, 2013|Print

Definitely not! Young children, even as early as preschool age, can definitely begin to learn the basic concepts of managing money. Materials have been developed to assist preschool-aged children with learning the basics of money management in a program called "Thrive by Five." Those materials may be found at www.creditunion.coop/thriveby5.

This Web site has eight activities (developed in both English and Spanish) that parents can do to begin to teach their children about the basics of money management. In addition, there are several fact sheets such as "Tips for Teaching Preschoolers About Money," "What Young Children Can Learn," and "17 Things a Five-Year-Old Should Know About Money" that can assist you as well.
