DASH stands for the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet. The diet is low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and total fat and includes plenty of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy foods. The suggested daily salt intake is much less than the typical American consumes. Potassium-rich foods, such as baked potatoes (and potato skin), orange juice, bananas, cantaloupes, and lentils are encouraged. DASH also suggests meals include only modest portions of lean meat, poultry, or seafood and few sweets.
