I think my financial institution made a mistake with my checking account. What can I do?

Although it is rare, financial institutions do make mistakes. Errors can occur when checks or transactions are posted to your account. Sometimes transactions are posted to the wrong account or unauthorized withdrawals are made.

Review your statements monthly. If you think you've found a mistake, compare the information on the account statement against the receipt for the transaction. To request that your financial institution correct the error, contact it in writing within 30 days of receiving the statement and keep a copy of the letter for your records. You should also review the Account Agreement you received when you opened the account for information about disputing errors.
