I worry about identity theft. Today I heard about cell phone messages called "smishing" that are being used by thieves. Can you tell me what this is and how it is done?

Smishing is a type of mobile spam done with text messages on your smart phone. The term smishing is derived from the familiar "phishing" and the "sm" from SMS, the protocol used to transmit text messages via cellular devices. A smishing text message might ask a recipient to register online or to go to a fraudulent Web site. These Web sites can then download mobile spyware or worms onto your mobile device that can monitor your calls or keystrokes.
