How tall should the forage be when I turn my cows into a pasture, and when should they be moved to another paddock?

This decision depends on the type of grass, but most grass grows the fastest and has the highest feed value when grazed between 3 and 8 inches in height.
If grazed shorter than 3 inches, it will take longer for grass to regrow because it has to replenish its photosynthetic leaf area before more rapid growth can begin.
If you wait for it to grow beyond 8 to 10 inches, shading of lower leaves and increased fiber in the stem will reduce growth rate and quality.
