Safe removal can occur through chemical or mechanical means. Mechanically, small amounts of buttercups can be effectively controlled by hand pulling. Because they are perennials, chemical means work best when applied in the fall to actively growing and well-developed foliage. Always follow grazing recommendations listed after any application of herbicides, and make sure the herbicide you select is labeled for use in your state.
