During a heat wave, we are supposed to go to a "cooling shelter," but we don't have a car. How can we get there?

In many communities, a cooling shelter is a space available for residents to escape the high heat of the day. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are medical emergencies and should be prevented at all costs. That is why seeking shelter in a cooling shelter is so important?and possibly life saving.
Plan ahead, and investigate the resources available in your community, which may include public transportation, special transport services, and community volunteers. That way you will know whom to call when the time comes. Check with family members, friends, neighbors, local organizations, churches, and aging-related agencies that may assist you during a crisis.
If all else fails and you cannot find a ride to the shelter, call 9-1-1.
