Salinity can be measured several ways. An instrument called a Hydrometer measures water density which can be converted to salinity. A Conductivity Meter or Salinometer measures salinity by determining how much electrical current the water can conduct. A Refractometer measures how lights bends in the water sample. Salt water bends light more than fresh water. Finally, there are chemical tests that measure salinity.
