Is there any way to find the EPD of calves if you have their weights and their sire's EPDs but nothing for the dam?

No, the EPD of the calves for Birth or Weaning Weights cannot be determined in the usual way that a breed association program calculates EPDs. However, it may be possible to do a pedigree estimate EPD for the calves if the dam is of the same breed as the sire and the maternal grandparents have EPDs. A pedigree estimate is done for the dam by taking the average of the maternal grandparents' EPDs. Then this pedigree estimate for the calf's dam can be averaged with the known EPD of the calf's sire to produce a pedigree estimate EPD for the calf. This approach has the liability of not using the individual calf weights, and the accuracy of the estimate is low.
