In a selenium-deficient area, is it better to inject selenium prebreeding or feed a mineral for four months prebreeding at a 4-oz level containing 30 ppm selenium and vitamin E at 300 I.U. per pound?

Supplementation of selenium via a free-choice mineral is preferred. In extremely selenium-deficient areas, consider including chelated forms of selenium. Chelating a trace mineral improves the uptake and availability of the mineral to the animal's body. A second choice would be to inject selenium. Limited research is available regarding the impact of injectable selenium in beef cattle. In dairy cattle, injection of selenium improves first-service conception rate. When injecting, make sure that you follow BQA guidelines.
