If they are bull calves, then no implant is approved for use. If you castrate them as calves, or once castrated, then a weak estrogenic type implant would be appropriate if they are greater than 60 days of age. For an implant program to accelerate growth rate and improve feed efficiency throughout the life of the calf, multiple implants will need to be administered. Most implants will last for about 80 to 120 days (Compudose 200 would be an exception, lasting 200 days), making two or three successive implants necessary. A common implant program would be a mild estrogenic-like implant at 60 days of age, a strong estrogenic implant at 150 to 170 days of age, and a terminal combination estrogenic/androgenic implant given about 120 to 130 days prior to anticipated harvest date.
