Are ionophores beneficial in beef cattle rations?

Yes. Ionophores consistently improve feed conversion 5 to 10 percent by enhancing the efficiency of rumen fermentation and reducing protein degradation in the rumen. Moreover, Rumensin is somewhat effective for reducing bloat and acidosis by encouraging more uniform consumption patterns. Rumensin and Bovatec are also effective coccidiostats.
