How would you evaluate "NutriDense" hybrids offered for silage use? NutriDense is higher in essential amino acids and higher in oil content than conventional hybrids. These are offered in a NutriDense and a NutriDense-plus low-phytate version. Which one?

We have no data on such varieties as a silage. Fermentation of high oil varieties may be markedly different than normal varieties and not always as desirable, but again no supportive data exist to my knowledge. For the most part, the amino acid issue is irrelevant since it is being ensiled and ultimately fed to ruminants. Also, ensiling may negate the importance of having low phytate, but still more data are needed. Do not purchase these varieties for ensiling until beneficial claims are substantiated.
