Are so-called affinity credit cards a good idea?

Affinity cards make contributions to an educational or charitable organization based on the amount charged by the cardholder. Offers must also be scrutinized carefully, however. Often, the amount of the donation is small, such as a half of one percent (50 cents for every $100 charged). In addition, unlike a cash donation, indirect donations to charities via a credit card are not tax-deductible.
