I live in Anoka County, MN. I planted two blueberry bushes (one Polaris and one Northcountry) this spring and would like to know what I need to do to prepare them for winter.

There are three things you can do to help your bushes survive. One, water them well. Do not let them go into the winter starved for moisture. Two, mulch. Several inches of organic mulch over the root system will help preserve the moisture and prevent exposure to the freeze/thaw cycle, which can occur with little snow. Finally, you may wish to surround them with hardware cloth. Hardware cloth is like chicken wire except the openings are 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch. This barrier will prevent rabbits, voles, and mice from eating the bark on your tender bushes. Below is a link to University of Minnesota's publication on the care of blueberries.
