How do I best manage fertilizer nutrients such nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium?

It is best to acquire a good representative soil sample using a soil probe. Check with your local Extension agent on sampling guidelines. Then submit your sample to a laboratory. It is best to use your land-grant university soil testing lab if one is available because these laboratories use appropriate analytical procedures and calibrated soil test recommendations specific to your area. The soil test report you receive should provide fertilizer recommendations for your specific field's best management.
