What is GLONASS?

GLONASS is the acronym for Global Navigation Satellite System. GLONASS is the Russian equivalent of the United States' Global Positioning System. This system fell into disrepair in the 1990s. However, there is increased interest in upgrading this system.

The European Union is constructing a satellite GPS navigation system called Galileo.
