Is rodent trapping a good method to eliminate a rodent population?

Trapping is an effective way to control rodents. Trapping has several advantages: it does not rely on potentially hazardous rodenticides; success is easily visible; and it allows for disposal of the rodent carcasses, thereby eliminating dead animal odors which may occur when rodenticide poisoning kills rodents in buildings.
