There are many Internet sites that provide GIS primers designed to introduce people to the technology and its uses. Some of these resources have been developed by private industry and others by academia and nonprofit organizations. Some resources are copyrighted and are not directly "viewable" via the Internet (i.e., books and manuals).

Here are addresses of a few online sites to get started:

* GIS self learning tool
* GIS.com (ESRI)
* Introduction to GIS (USGS)
* Introduction to GIS (GIS.net)
