Eastern redbud is generally a tree worth saving. It flowers early and by June its breathtaking pink mantle is transformed into waxy heart-shaped leaves. The best time to transplant trees and shrubs is while they are dormant in mid to late fall or early spring, assuming the soil can be dug with ease. Transplants are more likely to die if planted in the late summer and early fall. Only attempt to move trees with a trunk smaller than one inch in diameter if professional help is not available.
