How often should hostas be divided? Mine have grown quite large.

Hostas can be left undisturbed for many years. The clumps will get quite large overtime, but rarely need division for rejuvenation. For purposes of propagation clumps may be lifted and divided in the spring as the new growth is emerging. Since hostas can remain undisturbed for a long time, it is important to amend soils with organic matter for moisture retention.
