Russian sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia) needs little in the way of ongoing maintenance. This plant prefers a loose, well drained soil and full sun. Once established, it will occupy three to four feet of garden area. It is best to let the sturdy growth stand through the winter and prune the stems back to the base in mid April to promote growth and flowering. Russian sage will grow quickly once the weather warms.
