What would be a good groundcover for poor soils in hot dry areas?

There are numerous kinds of sedum, also known as stonecrop, that thrive in soils that are dry and rocky. The groundcover forms of sedum include varieties such as goldmoss, dragon’s blood, red carpet, tricolor and oak-leaf.
