I started a vegetable garden this year and attracted hungry ground squirrels. Can you recommend vegetables that they will avoid? I live in Eagle, Colorado at 6,600 feet elevation.

Eagle is certainly ground squirrel country, and they can devastate a vegetable garden. Experienced vegetable gardeners in Eagle have told us that squirrels seem to favor beans, lettuce, peppers and root crops, such as radish, turnips and beets. They tend to be less eager about eating arugula, nasturtium, tomatoes, peas, squash and onions along with members of the onion family, such as chives and leeks. Perhaps the bitterness of these leaves make them less palatable to ground squirrels. In an area where vegetables can be a challenge to grow (either because of harsh weather or hungry critters), arugula seems to be a tasty confidence builder for the vegetable gardener.
