The more synchrony there is between corn pollen shed and the presence of small monarch caterpillars on milkweed, the greater the risk to the insects from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) corn. Currently, researchers believe that there is little overlap between the two, but both are variable events influenced by weather and location so there may be situations where they are well synchronized.
