Kentucky coffee  (Gymnocladus dioica) tree is a marginal tree at 6300 feet of elevation.  Kentucky coffee tree is listed as growing to about 6500 feet in elevation, but there are better, more reliable trees to select from.  For good shade at higher elevations, try green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica lanceolata), Shubert chokecherry (Prunus virginiana 'Shubert') - a smaller tree or Norway maple (Acer platanoides). For a list of other, good,  hardy deciduous trees, see "Trees for Mountain Communities".
