Yes, the very best time for planting trees in Colorado is early spring, but the second best time is early fall. Look carefully at your site. Identify the purpose of the tree. Will it be for shade? Do you want a deciduous or an evergreen tree? How tall will it grow? How far will the branches spread? What are the water requirements? Choosing the right tree for the right location is very important. For more information on planting, choosing and caring for trees, including winter watering, contact the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Office in your county.
