Cedar mulch can be used in the same manner as redwood or cypress mulch. Cedar is quite resistant to decay and will last much longer than pine or hardwood mulches. Cedar mulch can be used around trees, ornamentals, or in vegetable gardens to help conserve moisture and reduce weed growth. Cedar may turn gray faster than other mulches and the cedar fragrance may repel both beneficial and harmful insects until it dissipates through exposure to the environment. Since cedar does not decay rapidly, there would be a slower addition of nutrients to the soil as compared to other mulches that would decompose faster.
