A lip tattoo is a unique, permanent, indelible mark on the horse's inside upper lip used as a form of identification. This form of identification is typically used in the Thoroughbred industry. Lip tattoos can be used to trace the horse's pedigree, racing summary, record, starts, owner information, and sales history through The Jockey Club.
