Are there health issues I should be concerned with if my horses consume sulfuric-acid or rotten-egg gas-contaminated water?

Studies out of Canada show no evidence that high sulfate water affects horses adversely or causes any digestive disturbances or other health issues if consumed. Odors from sulfates, tannins, manure, or rotting vegetation contribute to most water odors and may affect palatability for horses. You should be more concerned that the horses will not drink the sulfate-containing water because of the odor, and the decrease in water consumption could lead to dehydration which will cause more problems. Allowing them access to treated water would be the best practice.
