Our mare foaled, but she ignores the newborn. We tried getting her first milk from her as well; however, she seems to have no milk. What should we do?

Anytime that you have a foal that is having problems, whether it is a nutritional issue or a health issue, call your veterinarian immediately. Foals need to eat within a couple of hours of birth and at least every two hours thereafter with a daily intake of about 20% of their body weight. Also, the foal should get a plasma transfusion if it did not get adequate colostrum.
