The benefit to the parent in obtaining a temporary written agreement is that it helps to show that they have not abandoned the child and it provides for certain services for the child to be authorized by the caregiver. The benefit for the custodial caregiver is that they may have the authority to obtain medical care for the child, enroll him in school, or take on other responsibilities to raise the child as prescribed in the agreement. By accepting this agreement, the caregiver agrees to provide food, clothing, and shelter to the child and protect them from harm. However, the caregiver may not become the legal custodian of, or have financial responsibility for the child. The child’s parents may or may not remain financially responsible.
