Is a third-party custodian (grandparent raising grandchild) eligible to receive any public assistance for the child?

Yes. A child living in the legal and physical custody of someone other than his or her parents is considered a dependent child and is eligible for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families-Child Only (TANF) benefits, Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and possibly other assistance. Contact your local public assistance office for information.
