Pests within the home can cause a variety of health issues. One of the leading causes of allergies, asthma and other bronchial disorders are large indoor cockroach populations. Additionally, cockroaches can carry disease causing organisms and bacteria on their bodies and in their fecal material making it easy to spread diseases and bacteria to members of the family. Infectious diseases can be transmitted by insect vectors, such as mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. These insect transmittable diseases can result in mild illness to serious disease such as Lyme disease, malaria, encephalitis, typhus, tularemia, and many others. Insect stings and bites can cause a variety of reactions in humans. Allergic reactions from stings can range from slight swelling and itching in the area of the sting to nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, or even unconsciousness.
