My aunt recently passed away. My mother was listed as beneficiary for all her property. We found copies of several CDs marked P.O.D. with my mother listed as the beneficiary. What should we do?

Make an appointment with the branch manager of the financial institution where the certificates of deposit (CDs) were held. Bring all the documentation you have (such as your copies of the CDs) with you and request an accounting of your aunt's money. The financial institution should have this information in its computer. Typically, CDs continue to renew at current interest rates (called a rollover) unless the financial institution advises otherwise. However, it is possible that your aunt did not respond to requests for direction about what to do with the CDs as they matured, and perhaps the funds were turned over to the unclaimed property office in her state of residence. Again, the financial institution manager will be in the best position to assist you.
