If your daughter doesn't eat dairy products, it may be necessary for her to take a calcium supplement to meet her high calcium needs as a teen. A teenage girl requires 1,300 milligrams of calcium a day. Foods are the best way to consume calcium. Four servings of milk and dairy products or other foods with calcium such as calcium-fortified juices, breads, cereals, and soy or rice beverages provide adequate calcium to meet daily recommendations. See if your daughter likes yogurt and low-fat cheese, and try cooking with dairy products. Talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian for a recommendation on a calcium supplement for your daughter.
