When you cannot go outside to exercise, try to fit more activity into your daily routine. Here are some possibilities:
  • Walk while you are on the phone.
  • If you have stairs, walk them for activity.
  • Bring in the groceries one bag at a time.
  • Exercise during commercial breaks when watching TV.
  • Turn on your favorite music, and dance around the house. Look for other places to exercise in your community. Shopping malls, schools, or other community buildings sometimes open for walking or other exercise. Try to exercise early in the morning or later in the evening when the weather is cooler. If you can, purchase exercise equipment such as a treadmill; check the ads, and sometimes you can find a bargain on used equipment. There are many exercise videos available that you can do at home, such as walking programs, Pilates, and yoga. Check them out from your library first to see which exercise suits you. The important thing is to set some time aside to exercise most days a week.
