Do artificial sweeteners promote weight gain?

There is no scientific evidence to indicate that the artificial sweeteners in wide use today promote weight gain. However, there is little evidence to support that they promote weight loss either. Using artificial sweeteners as part of a low-calorie diet may make the diet more palatable and allow you to have some of the foods that you enjoy without all the sugar.
