Do I need to follow a low-carb or low-fat diet to lose weight?

For weight loss, the bottom line is calories in, calories out. Neither a low-carb nor a low-fat diet is good for permanent weight loss. For permanent weight loss, you need to eat a well-balanced diet consisting of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and low-fat dairy; consume fewer calories than you expend; and be physically active each day.
