Canned fruits and vegetables are a great way to get the fruits and vegetables you need each day. They can be cheaper, you don’t need to worry about seasonal availability, and they have a much longer shelf life than fresh produce. When buying canned fruit, make sure it is canned in its own juice, which will cut out added sugar. Vegetables are canned with salt, so try to choose products with little added salt. Another way to lower the salt content of your canned vegetables is to rinse them before use. Remember fresh, canned, and frozen are all great ways to get your daily recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables.
