The answer depends on the type of cattle. If the calves are seedstock or purebred cattle, then most breed associations have a field person who can help you determine value. These field staff attend sales and are in contact with other seedstock producers who are merchandising these types of cattle. If the calves are purebred, you would need documentation from the breed association as to parentage, as certain sire lines may be more valuable than others.
If the calves are commercial quality, contact sales barns in the surrounding area. Be able to describe to them the type of cattle and quality. If you can't do that, many times sales barns have managers out in the country looking at cattle that may be merchandised through their auction market. These managers will have a good idea of what the cattle are worth depending on quality.
