I have a horse that we bought from a rescue. We were told that she is a Thoroughbred, but I would like to find out where can I research this horse and her background.

Thoroughbreds are commonly identified with a lip tattoo including a letter, denoting the year born, and a series of numbers. If the horse is registered with The Jockey Club, you can research the horse's ancestry through The Jockey Club Information Systems for a small fee. It gives you the horse's identity, pedigree and tabulated race record. Other services are available at an additional cost.
